One day down and three to go, we are updating you on the 2015 PanAms, the toughest tournament of the year has begun and our team of warriors have finished representing for the day. From our school we have 3 members who received medals in their brackets, James Santos came in 2nd place in the White Belt Super Heavyweight Masters division, Brianna Matsuura Placed 2nd in the White Belt Rooster Weight Adult division and David Acuna came in third place Featherweight Adult division. 2 Silvers and one Bronze, not bad for our first day out, now its the Blue and Purple belts turn. Stay tuned to see how the rest of the 2015 Pan American Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament turns out. OSS
A Black Belt in Judo, Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and an all around life long martial artist, Coach Brian Mendez took 1st place this past Saturday at the Gracie Nationals Tournament in his bracket. Coach Brian is one of the elite members here at Pedro Soriano Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he trains religiously in both Judo and BJJ and this past weekend he showed that hard work and dedication produces results. Gracie Nationals is a unique tournament with rules that include no points and no time limits meaning the only way to end a match is by submission, Brian Mendez went to work right away finishing all opponents with his signature Knee Bar. We thank you for flying our schools flag and upholding the Samurai spirit. Very Nice!

Todays article is a quick one, we would like to thank today’s Kids No-Gi class, these kids techniques are getting sharp. Every Saturday morning we meet up for No-Gi and watching how hard these kids train is an inspiration. Today Sensei showed the Stack Pass, let’s keep up the excellent work, we’ve got some big tournaments coming up soon.
One thing we never forget at the San Pedro Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Club is our roots. In the above picture you see Coach Brian and Coach Zach drilling the Self Defense techniques of the day. While there are many reasons to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu including great exercise, healthy lifestyles, meeting friendly humble people or just looking for a fun hobby, we view self defense as one of the most important reasons to train. We had a great self defense class this afternoon, our Adults Fundamentals is filled with men and women that have great attitudes and a desire to learn, they are of all ages and sizes but come together under one flag, we are thankful to have this exceptional group for reminding us everyday why we do this. This week the San Pedro Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Kickboxing Club would like to highlight our Adults Kickboxing program. This awesome class started just 3 months ago and is run by our Kids Kickboxing Instructor, Coach Matt. Adults Kickboxing is held every Monday & Wednesdays @ 8:00 pm, and focuses on fitness, strategy and techniques. Stop by the academy and check out our Kickboxing crew hard at work, it’s fun to watch and even more fun to join. This class is great for anyone, whether you’re a hobbyist or an aspiring pro fighter, our Adult Kickboxing program has a little something for everyone.

It is 2015 and  10 days have passed since we opened our doors for the first time this year, from day one we could feel the energy and are proud to say that every class since then has been filled with determined minds and bodies. We can see that the team is ready to start the competition season back up and as the Pan Ams and our in house tournament get closer we expect the dedication to only increase. It’s great to have everyone back.

To all our members and followers we would like to say goodbye one last time before we close our doors for the holidays, 2014 was a great year here at the San Pedro Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy, we shared many great moments and grew both as individuals and as a team.
Throughout the year we saw many new faces,
and had the opportunity to visit new places,
we traveled around in pursuit of new missions,
and came home well represented at BJJ competitions,
whether they came home with silver or came home with gold
we are thankful to all of you for being so bold!
While we may not be the best at writing poetry we would definitely like to express gratitude to the whole PSBJJ family for allowing us to serve you this year and for keeping the faith in our program, 2014 was the first time since arriving in the states that Sensei Pedro went back home to Brazil, while he was gone the whole team came together and kept the show running for 7 weeks. We hope everyone keeps up the hard work going into the new year, not just on the mats but in their lives as well. Here’s to a successful and prosperous 2015 and to a great remaining 2014.

As promised we are bringing you the latest updates from San Pedro Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu every week. This weeks blog is in honor of Mr. Ken Teshima. As many of you know, Saturday December 13th was our annual year end Belt Promotion Ceremony, we had many of our brothers and sisters move up in rank and now with great pride we would like to congratulate Ken Teshima on becoming PSBJJ’s newest Blue Belt! Although Mr. Teshima is one of our newer members, make no mistake, he is a grappling veteran in his own right holding the rank of Black Belt in Judo. Ken had a great year of training and finished out with a bang, entering and winning the Absolute Division(Open Weight)at the IBJJF Worlds Masters Jiu-Jitsu Tournament as well as taking home Silver in his Weight Class. Needless to say the promotion was well deserved. Thank you for your continued dedication and contributions to the Gentle Art, your presence is always appreciated on the mat.
