This past weekend our friend Cleber Luciano and his wife Lili hosted for the 20th consecutive year the Copa PacÃfica of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Huntington Beach at Ocean View High School.
We want to congratulate all students, the ones that fought and represented our School flag and the rest of them for training hard and helping prepare their teammates.
On Saturday the 22nd, Jarry S. (14) took 1st place after defeating by 2 wins, in a best out of 3, against a green belt. Jarry had total domination on both matches and came out with the gold to bring back to San Pedro. On the podium Jarry stood by himself after his opponent refused to go get his 2nd place medal. Carlos L. (12) had a tough match and ended up with 2nd place.
On Sunday the 23rd was the adults white and blue belts turn to get their battles on. The first one on deck was Tobin Woodley on the Masters White belt Light weight division. Tobin took 1st place, had 3 matches and totally rolled them all up. First match cross collar choke from mount position, second match a beautiful 15 seconds arm bar from closed guard and final match won by lots of points and no points scored against.
Jose Martinez was the next one on deck, Maters White belt Middle weight division, and scored 2nd place by defeating the first opponent by guillotine choke and loosing the final on the sudden death. Erin Donnelly also took 2nd place in the Women Masters White belt Super Feather weight division.
Our Army Major Hal Shannon Howerton, Blue Belt heavy weight, scored 1st place after defeating both of his opponents and finishing the final match by Submission (Americana). Gary Mikaelian scored 3rd place via guillotine choke on the 3rd place bout for the Master II blue belt light weight division.
We also would like to thank Biagia Nguyen and Bryan Castillo for coming out and competing. The results were not how we expected but they fought their butt off and kept their head up.
Thank you all once again and stay tuned!
