Our Kids Jiu-Jitsu Program keeps making us proud.

This past Saturday, April 28th, our friend Cleber Luciano has hosted the 21st Copa Pacifica Tournament and like every year we take a team to represent our School and San Pedro. We want to say thank you for students for going out there and battling it out fiercely and leaving it all on the mat and also thank the parents for trusting us with the safety and well-being of their children on our Martial Arts Program.

The kids mostly had a rough patch this time and we took the tournament as a lesson learned. We all must train hard and stay focus daily in order to keep getting better. Although like every year we make champions this time was no different – Quinn Cook (8) scored 1st place on his very first tournament.

Thank you all again for showing up and fighting hard and showing an immense amount of heart.

Latest News From Our School – News and Recognition

Hello everyone!

These past two weeks were pretty eventful and History was made here in San Pedro. Lets start with the weekend before last. On Feb 17th, 2018 our dear friend and Sensei Mauricio Tinguinha came for his 3rd time to our School to teach his craft to our team. Sensei Tinguinha brought to our mats a set of techniques of Spider Guard and it is needless to say that it was an awesome high level class. We also had the pleasure to have Sensei Paulo Guillobel on the mat with us for the Seminar. In addition to a great time on the Seminar, we had our veery first Black Belt promotion at our School. Yeah! That is right… Our School is near 12 years old now and the first seed from San Pedro is now Black Belt. Tim O’Donnell (39), active student under Sensei Pedro Soriano since 2008, has been promoted the rank of Black Belt. Tim is a father of two, an husband, ILWU member and last but not least a person of character and values, loyal and true samurai spirit.

San Pedro has other Black Belts but Mr. O’Donnell is the first Black Belt to be awarded a Black Belt in Town after training from White to Black. Below are some pictures of this amazing weekend.

Here is some of the moments captured by, the one and only, Chris Nguyen, from his lenses straight to you.

Our Adult Program also has new colors: a new batch of Blue belts…

If you know someone that needs a “turn around” in life, whether they are struggling with weight, sedentary lifestyle, depression or simply needs a little excitement.. please share this article with them and Share all the benefits you have had so far from our Jiu-Jitsu Program with them.

Wow! It has been too long again since last post. Ma bad…

The funny thing is… the last post was about the In House Tournament, held here at our School, and this post now is also about the San Clemente In House Tournament, held at our “mothership” the Guillobel BJJ Academy. Once again San Pedro was well represented in San Clemente by 9 of our students. Our team scored 3 golds out of 4 divisions and we couldn’t be any prouder. Everyone fought hard regardless of the finishing results.

Thank you all that took your precious time, on a Saturday morning and battling on the mats of Sensei Guillobel’s Academy. You all looked great and I’m sure you came out of there a better person and athlete.

On June 17th, our 8th Annual In House took place at our School and it was an awesome turn out. Every year we invite a couple different academies and gather on our mats for a friendly competition with the objective of exposing the students to the competition environment and experience, as well as testing their skills on a safe and controlled environment.

The competition started at 9am with the white belts and it was full of action and awesome matches. The highlight of the morning really was the women bracket made out of our students and they really put on the show. An awesome display of heart and technique. coach brian very nice
A Black Belt in Judo, Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and an all around life long martial artist, Coach Brian Mendez took 1st place this past Saturday at the Gracie Nationals Tournament in his bracket. Coach Brian is one of the elite members here at Pedro Soriano Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he trains religiously in both Judo and BJJ and this past weekend he showed that hard work and dedication produces results. Gracie Nationals is a unique tournament with rules that include no points and no time limits meaning the only way to end a match is by submission, Brian Mendez went to work right away finishing all opponents with his signature Knee Bar. We thank you for flying our schools flag and upholding the Samurai spirit. Very Nice!
